You’ve probably heard a lot about Twitter, the hot microblog social network that’s growing even faster than Facebook. Still, you’re probably either wondering what the hell Twitter actually is, or, if you’ve already signed up, how it actually works. I know I am! Good news — I searched the information super highway and found a site that has compiled a list of questions and answers on how to get started, the basics of what to do once you’re there, and even a few advanced tips on how to get the most out of Twitter over time. Check it out:
Twitter is what is known as a microblogging service, an online place where you can ‘post’ short messages, or ‘tweets’ of 140 characters (including spaces). These ‘tweets’ can be read by anyone who is ‘following’ you (essentially, subscribing to your tweets). Similarly, you can follow (subscribe) to the tweets of anyone you want, from friends and family to favorite celebrities, publications and Web sites. The tweets of your followees show up in a main feed right on Twitter’s main page, one after the other in chronological order.
At its most basic, Twitter is a dedicated status updating service à la Facebook (in fact, Facebook seems to have modeled its recent upgrade on Twitter), with which you can keep people up-to-date with your life — be it what you’re doing at a particular moment in time, a link to an interesting Web site, or something as mundane as what you had for lunch.
While Facebook and MySpace are filled with various ways to post information, pictures, and annoying applications, Twitter is a more controlled environment — just a name, location, Web site link, 160-character bio, and a picture. Therefore, it’s all about what you say in that 160-character space, especially since people are more likely to read your whole Twitter profile than they are the hard-to-wade-through, gargantuan tomes that end up on a typical Facebook or MySpace profile. In other words, yes, your Twitter profile can get you fired so watch what you say here (and in your tweets, for that matter).
You can respond to people one of two ways: with direct messages, which are private, 140-character exchanges, or with @replies, which are publicly viewable. You can send a ‘@reply’ by simply adding the ‘@’ symbol and the particular user’s name to the beginning of your message (example: “@switched: I really liked that article on Twitter!”). These @replies are ideal for furthering a public dialogue. On the other hand, direct messages, which you can send by clicking ‘Direct Messages’ in the Web site’s right-hand bar (or by preceding a text message with ‘d’ and the user name), are better for things you want to say to an individual, rather than the whole ‘Twitterverse.’
ReTweets are re-posted updates that give credit to the originator of the message. In other words, you’re simply cutting and pasting someone else’s tweet and posting it on your own feed, linking to the person who first wrote it. ReTweeting builds goodwill within the Twitter community, as long as you don’t overdo it. There is no need to reTweet every update that makes you giggle, but, if something strikes you as particularly interesting or funny, you can reTweet it by copy-and-pasting the update and preceding it with “RT” (for ReTweet) and the person’s username.
Here’s an example: We saw slashfilm posted about a new movie trailer yesterday, and wanted to share it, so we wrote:
RT: @slashfilm: The movie trailer for Spike Jonze’s Where The Wild Things Are is now online http://eweri.com/E44″
Long gone are the days of film and disposable camera’s, even though there are still some around, everyone has switched to digital. For all of you that don’t watch tv as much as I do, last night was The Dancing With The Stars Season premiere. If you have never watched the show, now’s the time to start watching!!! DWTS pair celebs , and some not so celeb’s, with championship ballroom dancers. If this doesn’t give you the dancing “jitter” bug i’m not sure what else will. The show follows these pairs through daunting daily rehearsals, and weekly choreographed professional dance routines to see, in the end, which of these celeb dance novices will win the much coveted globed trophy and title “DWTS Champion”. It really makes you feel like any one can just go out there on the ballroom floor and perfect a ”Paso” or “Tango” with patience, passion, practice , and persistence. Here’s a line up of this years cast, and a video of my favorite of the night!!! VOTE FOR KIM!!!
BelindaCarlisle- of the infamous girl band from the 80′s “the GO-GO’s”, I missed her dance so no comment, but she kinda looks like that lady from Desperate Housewives…
ChuckWicks- newbie Country singer and also dating his partner Julianne Huff, cutie pie!!! There chemistry was off the charts! They’ll be one to pair to watch!!!
DavidAlanGrier_- from the hilarious comedian!, he did well but I really could care less…
DeniseRichards- actress and “007 Girl”, great figure but still needs some help! Hot Mess #1!
GillesMarini-hottie next door neighbor of “Samantha” from “Sex and the City”, hot and sexy and got all the moves down pat, great job for his first time out. He sizzled up the screen, he’s gonna get “the horny mom” vote for sure!
LawrenceTaylor- Football player, who cares, I don’t!
LilKim- famous rapper and my favorite for this season! Her sweet and passionate character infuses all her dance moves with every foot she places on the dance floor! Vote for Kim!!!
Holly Madson- last minute replacement, from “The Girls Next Door” , former Playboy Playmate, and a HOT MESS #2 on the floor, hope she improves…really I mean that…
ShawnJohnson- Olympic Champion and America’s sweetheart, she did great but I didn’t see any fire, unmemorable.
Stevo- A Jackass! need I say more…
SteveWozniak- Apple Co-Founder, and Kathy Griffith’s ex, well at least he tried, he’s a good sport even though he received the worst comments of the night. Go Computer Geeks!!!

Hey guys I apologize for the absence as of late. I will give no excuse only an apology, and i beg for you guys to continue to stick with us through these somewhat difficult times, for me (Miss Roq) and Jasmine both. But instead of continuing to make excuses as to not post, or find other distractions for myself, I’ve decided to share it all with you. maybe someone can shed some light ion the situation.
For the last several months I’ve been battling with change. Well actually since my 30th birthday I been dealing with these feelings. The fear, and the uncertainty of tomorrow one day then the next day the optimism and the excitement of not knowing what the future brings. I’m on an emotional roller coaster and depending on my mood, it’s either a kiddie ride, typical to those found at Disneyland with that creepy carnival type music blaring in your ear, and those weird little elves humming strange tunes as you cruise through the dark tunnel, or a frightening, rickety ol’ thing that hangs you over it’s edge, and let’s you scream and sometimes laugh, outta pure nervousness till it abruptly yanks you back in, before you lose your lunch. Yup, that’s how I’ve been feeling the latter most of these days.
I can go on and on about what’s going on in my life, the good the bad, but i won’t bore you with the particulars. All’s i tell you is that I’m in a strange place, as i realize that many of us are in these hard economic times, but i do know what goes up must come down and vice versa, I do know it’s only temporary, and i do know that change is good, no matter in what form it’s in or when it comes. And if your like me you have to be practically thrown into it. It’s in these times that you get to learn your own true character, it’s what you do when your back’s up against the wall. That’s what I’ve learned. There are no problems there are only solutions…right???
So today my father pulls me aside to talk to me because it’s obvious that I’m feeling kind of down. He reassures me of all of the above paragraph, and let’s me know that he’s always has my back, then he hands me this saying by Albert Einstein. -Albert Einstein
Let’s not pretend that things will change if we keep doing the same things. A crisis can be a real blessing to any person, to any nation. For all crises bring progress.
Creativity is born from anguish, just like the day is born form the dark night. It’s in crisis that inventive is born, as well as discoveries, and big strategies. Who overcomes crisis, overcomes himself, without getting overcome. Who blames his failure to a crisis neglects his own talent, and is more respectful to problems than to solutions. Incompetence is the true crisis.
The greatest inconvenience of people and nations is the laziness with which they attempt to find the solutions to their problems. There’s no challenge without a crisis. Without challenges, life becomes a routine, a slow agony. There’s no merit without crisis. It’s in the crisis where we can show the very best in us. Without a crisis, any wind becomes a tender touch. To speak about a crisis is to promote it. Not to speak about it is to exalt conformism. Let us work hard instead.
Let us stop, once and for all, the menacing crisis that represents the tragedy of not being willing to overcome it.
It’s helped me so far, hope it can do some good for you too….
