We all do it whether we like to admit it or not, we all recycle. I’m not talking about saving your plastic water bottles or aluminum cans for 5 cents a piece. I’m talking about recycling men. No matter how independent we become as individuals we always remain dependent on some form of companionship. No one likes to be totally and utterly alone, including me, so we all can fall prey to reaching back in our memory AND cell phones to the fallen relationships, the unclosed chapters, and the whoever will respond first for a quick ego fix.

It’s a bit different in my case. In my case, I feel, that I’m the one that’s being recycled. I’m the one that’s been chosen to fall into a heavy rotation like the same songs on the radio getting played once an hour, someone makes an attempt at playing me once a month. They always come back. For whatever the reason is they always come back. And since there’s no one new, just at this moment, I’ll respond to a text, email, or phone call. Obviously if I had met my Prince Charming in their interm I would have ignored anyone’s attempt at a reunion but since I haven’t I keep an open mind and wait to listen to the lame excuse as to why they skipped out or why we slipped away in the first place, or frankly why they are a such a non-comittal “douchetard.

I’m not going to deny that both parties get something out of it, there’s a reason for the madness, one is we both get to fill a momentary void with someone we’re comfortable with and another reason is we both receive an ego boost and a confirmation as to why we’re so wonderful but perhaps so wrong for each other and for you ladies…a free meal and drinks isn’t that bad either.

As long as you keep in mind what and who you really want in your life and you don’t fall back into a stagnant relationship that has no hope of going ANYWHERE, I don’t see a problem with it. Company is practice for the real thing. Keep recycling until you get recycled out because eventually you might find yourself in a great relationship.

Many health experts will agree that drinking more water will help give you more energy. I find this to be absolutely true. However, I still find that I have to remind myself to drink it! So I came up with this list and it seems to be doing the job.. Hopefully you’ll find it usefull as well.. Summers coming babes, we gotts to make the body right!! Drink up!

* Make it a Morning Ritual. I once read in a magazine article that many of us wake up dehydrated, and the first thing you should do before you do anything else is drink two glasses of water. I’ve now made it a regular morning habit, and it inspires the momentum to continue drinking more for the rest of the day.

* Add Some Lemon. Back in the early stages when I couldn’t stand drinking water, I squeezed lemon juice into my water. At restaurants, I would ask the servers to provide lemon slices with my water–which makes me sound snobby, but most restaurants are willing and expected to provide this service.

* Keep it In the Clear. When your urine is clear, you are properly hydrated. When your urine is a dark yellow, you are definitely dehydrated.

* Think of How Pretty You’ll Look. I don’t know how direct the correlation is between having healthy, glowing skin and drinking a lot of water, but I’m not taking any chances. Whatever psychological trick keeps me hydrated!

* Do It Like It’s Hot. If you’re in the mood for a hot drink, drink heated water. Sometimes we just want the psychological pleasure that comes with having a hot mug cupped in our hands than the actual drink itself. Plus, coffee and tea contain caffeine, which is a diuretic and elevates the rate of water being expelled from your body via urination.

* Drink When You Have a Munchie Attack. Sometimes our hunger is thirst masquerading as fake hunger. Drinking a cup or two of water will make you feel “full.”

*Take Baby Steps. Don’t expect to go from zero glasses of water to the full 8 glasses overnight. Start with one glass of water in the morning and one glass of water at night, and build your way up from there.

* Cheap cheap. Water at restaurants are FREE!

* Always have a full glass of water near you when you are working. It will give you something to mindlessly sip on when you are brainstorming or need something to do with your hands. I bought myself a big 20oz. water bottle that I fill up throughout the night.

xo,

I found this article on the Oxygen magazine site, and it goes into why eating foods (particularily carbs) that are high in fiber are better for you. maybe this will give you a little understanding on the whole subject before I dive further into it.

By Miss Roq

Are you looking for ways to boost your fat loss? Here areOxygen’s top three picks.

Boost winter weight loss

By Sandy Braz

1. Up your fiber.

Without a doubt, fiber tops the list for setting your digestive system free of toxins and waste (which could be slowing your fat loss progress) but it also earns a starring role when it comes to satiating your hunger.

Experts at the Mayo Clinic report that high-fiber foods require more chewing time, giving your body more time to register when you’re no longer hungry, so you’re less likely to overeat. Also, fiber-dense foods (like broccoli, kale, spinach and whole wheat flour) make meals feel larger in your stomach, so they keep you full for a longer period of time.

Fiber found in vegetables, fruits and whole grains could be your best defense against packing on winter pounds.

Check this out
If you read Alicia Marie’s column in the March 2009 issue of Oxygen, you got the skinny on her favorite fiber-packed meal: Cooked kale topped with smoked turkey breast for added flavor. For every cup of kale (130 grams) you’re getting three grams of fiber; that’s about 10 percent of your recommended daily intake. Bring on the green!

2. Turning up the heat on fat loss.

Instead of “pass the butter” how about “pass the garlic, cocoa, spearmint, horseradish or cinnamon!”

In a recent study from the Endocrine Society, “tastants” (the fat-fighting substance in spices) have been shown to help make you feel fuller by stimulating your taste buds and sense of smell. Researchers say that tastants can reduce excessive hunger, which can make sticking to clean eating a lot easier in the long run.

One of the most widely used fat-burning spices is pepper. The main ingredient in peppercorns is piperine, which has strong anti-inflammatory qualities, ramps up metabolism, helps promote digestion and stimulates your body to produce more heat, which breaks down fat cells. Adding it to your eat-clean dishes won’t just earn you some added flavor; it’ll get your fat loss fired up too.

3. Stress less, lose fat.

The winter months can take a toll on your mood. Snow, freezing temperatures and a lack of a vitamin D infusion from the sun can leave you stressed and your waistline in trouble.

Cortisol (the body’s “stress hormone”) is rapidly produced in the body when stress hits. This imbalance throws off blood sugar levels, metabolism and mental well-being. Studies also link cravings to the production of cortisol, which is why you might feel the need to reach for some Ben & Jerry’s in times of distress.

According to a study out of the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, people who are less stressed experience greater fat loss and are able to keep weight off over time. That’s enough to give the phrase “chill out” a whole new meaning this winter.

To keep stress in check as you wait for spring to arrive, try enrolling in a weekly yoga or mediation class, lap off stress at an indoor pool or make a cardio-date with a friend for an extra session on the treadmill.

This one’s for Tineo and all our other inquisitive readers. Diet is the question of the century. For years we’ve been asking what and what not to eat. Don’t look at it as “dieting” that’s when you feel the pressure and have all that temptation and that fear of failure. Look at it as a way of life from now on.We all know that of coarse veggies and fruits are better for you then burgers and fries, unless you’re Micheal Phelps and you need to consume a whopping 12,000 calories a day). We also know that kool aid has more calories then water (water has 0 of course). But what we don’t know is why we have to eat veggies, whole grains and protein (chicken, fish, beef) to maintain or lose weight. Nobody tells us that unless we seek the answer. The truth is our bodies are all built differently so It’ll be different for everyone, but the average female needs to consume 1,200-1,500 calories a day, 1,200 if you’re less active, 1,500 for those of us that are more. In order to lose weight, mainly body fat, because you don’t want to lose muscle, you have to expend more then you consume. So in other words burn more calories then you are eating. This doesn’t mean eat a big mac and fries and that’s it for the day, cuz trust some people will do that. But in doing that yes they will lose weight, but they will also lose muscle and be feeling pretty rough, and look haggard and flabby (skinny, fat ala Kate Moss). I also imagine one would get stopped up, if you know what i mean…lol. This does mean you have to be cautious of exactly everything you are putting into your body, and controlling your portion sizes and the frequency of your eating habits. Keeping a journal helps me tons and hold me accountable, kind of a pain but you can also keep it in your phone (I put mine in my blackberry, then write it all down when I get home) If you are what you eat, which I believe is true, would you rather look like a huge, greasy, sloppy hamburger oozing cheese off the sides of your pants. Or a tall, lean, crisp looking cucumber, fresh and inviting? I pick the later. So hopefully you’re still following because this is some important stuff I’m about to tell you. IT’S ALL ABOUT CLEAN EATING. That’s no processed, frozen, or canned foods! Nothing with high fructose corn syrup and other shit you n i can’t pronounce. No hydrogenated oils! That’s learning to cook at home more often, buy a cooler to take to work with you with fresh, yummy snacks (plus it’ll save you tons of $$$) and preparing things ahead of time. I tell you this because I know how I am. If I get home and I’m hungry I’ll eat the first thing that’s quick and easy and staring at me in the face. Throw out junk foods (or give to some dude that likes junk food), everything that is high in calories. That’s those potato chips, red vines, and Swanson t.v. dinners sitting in your pantry and fridge. Along this new life adventure you’ll find new healthy treats to satisfy your sweet tooth. Don’t get tempted! Out of sight and out of mind. And plus are you really gonna leave your house at 9pm because you have a hankering for some M&Ms?

It is putting more protein into your diet. Eating every two-three hrs to ward off starvation. So yes that’s like 5-6xz a day, but small meals. I do 5, three medium and two snacks, that just works for me. At every meal you’ll need a protein even snacks, this helps you keep the muscle you’ll be building at the gym (you are going to the gym right?) At every medium meal you’ll need a protein, fat (good fat) and a good carb. Don’t be scared of that word carbohydrate. We need carbs, life wouldn’t be the same without carbs, I LOVE CARBS….sigh.

if you didn’t eat carbs you probably wouldn’t poop for about a week! O.k. that’s a little dramatic, but you do need them. But you need the good ones, yes i said good one’s. I put them in the category of everything that’s not white is good, or at least better (ie. brown rice, beans, wheat bread, fruit). That means they (good carbs) have fiber!!! YES, the stuff that helps you poop! I’m all about a good poop! And you need fiber to help you do that. Also it helps you feel full. When you digest a carb, it expands in your stomach while it’s getting broken down, that’s where the full feeling comes from. But don’t over indulge remember portion size, Eat until you’re satisfied and not until your full, there is a huge difference! Also drink lot of water! Water keeps you hydrated, helps you feel fuller longer, speeds up your metabolism, gives you great lookin skin!

I realize this sounds like alot so take your time doing this, it is a life style change not a diet! It can be dramatic, and traumatic for some, go your own pace. do one this a week until you got it in full swing. It’s second nature for me now, I don’t even crave those things that I used to before. I can go on and on about diet and exercise, and supplements forever!!!! and I will I am committing to go into detail about all of this stuff “twice” a week, just till I am able to fill you in on it all! Let’s say Monday’s and Thursdays. you’ve got a lot of homework to get you started for now! I hope it all helps!!!

xoxo Miss Roq

So, now that the new year is under way I decided I wanted to jazz up my workout/fitness regime and start up Yoga. I know, I know I’m a bit behind the times as far as the yoga wagon goes and with so many different types of Yoga my head is spinning. So I thought I’d post all the different types of Yoga techniques for all you elementary Yoga starters such as myself.. Lemme know which one suits you!

Ashtanga

What It Is: Ashtanga is one of the more physically challenging forms of yoga. Classes go through a sequence of as few as 25 poses (also called asanas) that include back bends, inversions (think headstands and handstands), balances, and twists.
Degree of Difficulty: Expect an invigorating workout. This style of yoga builds strength, stamina, and flexibility. Even beginner classes can be challenging.
Who It’s Best for: Athletic types who want a high-energy workout, as well as those who appreciate predictability and order.
Keep in Mind: Most classes follow the same prescribed order of poses, so you can expect an the same experience, whether you’re in a studio in Peoria or Portland. A boon if you like to take a yoga class when you’re on the road, but a bore if you thrive on variety.

Bikram (a.k.a. Hot Yoga)

What It Is: Bikram started becoming popular in America in the late 1970s. Classes are held in a room heated to about 105 degrees, which helps loosen muscles and joints. The 26-pose series is designed to stretch and strengthen your muscles, ligaments, and tendons.
Degree of Difficulty: Classes are demanding, since you cycle through the 26-pose series twice. The biggest challenge, however, may be coping with the intense heat. Some say it’s like exercising in a sauna.
Who It’s Best for: Devoted yogis who are looking for a new challenge or people who are very fit and want a hard and limbering workout. Before taking a Bikram class, check with your doctor if you are pregnant or have high blood pressure.
Keep in Mind: Be prepared to sweat — a lot. Bring an oversize bottle of water to class, and don’t forget a towel. After class, continue to drink water or have a fruit shake or a sports drink to help replenish electrolytes.

Hatha

What It Is: This is an umbrella term for all the poses involved in yoga, but in the United States, Hatha is associated with a slower-paced class that includes simple breathing and meditation exercises.
Degree of Difficulty: Hatha classes are typically mellow, with an emphasis on balancing strength and flexibility. That said, if your studio or gym rates its class levels from 1 to 3, expect the third level to be fast paced and therefore more strenuous.
Who It’s Best for: Those who are new to yoga or people who want a relaxing, meditative experience.
Keep in Mind: This is a good place to learn basic asanas, relaxation techniques, and the ways to move from pose to pose. But if the pace of a Hatha class puts you to sleep, don’t give up. Move on to Vinyasa, which is more athletic and rigorous.

Iyengar

What It Is: This style is known as the yoga of alignment, since the emphasis is on sustaining precise poses. Students use props, such as straps, blankets, wooden blocks, and chairs, to help them attain the ideal positions.
Degree of Difficulty: Classes are intense but not as grueling as, say, Ashtanga. You hold the poses for 30 seconds to two minutes (much longer than in many other yoga classes). You’ll strengthen and stretch your muscles, but you probably won’t be huffing and puffing.
Who It’s Best for: People who would rather focus on the subtleties of alignment than a revved-up heart rate.
Keep in Mind: Iyengar teachers go through an intense, multiyear training program (compared with as little as a few months for many other styles). The experience of the teachers might be why this is one of the most popular forms of yoga in America.

Kundalini

What It Is: Prepare to chant. A typical class starts with a series of breathing exercises and chants, then segues into practicing poses. The classes are designed to release a form of energy (called Kundalini) that is believed by practitioners to be stored at the base of the spine.
Degree of Difficulty: Kundalini is less athletic than some of the other styles, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy. The poses are performed in tandem with specific breathing patterns, which can be tricky to master.
Who It’s Best for: Those who are up for both a mental and physical workout. You’ll focus almost as much on your thoughts and energy as you will on the poses.
Keep in Mind: Kundalini is one of the more spiritual and enigmatic forms of yoga. Practitioners believe that by releasing Kundalini energy, you will awaken intuition and gain mental clarity over time.

Vinyasa (a.k.a. Flow Yoga)

What It Is: Vinyasa uses breathing as an integral part of movement and is close to Ashtanga in style. But whereas Ashtanga follows a set sequence, here the instructor selects the poses and pace.
Degree of Difficulty: The difficulty depends on the sequences chosen by the teacher. You’ll be “flowing” (moving) from one pose to the next with only short breaks. As with Hatha, many classes are rated from 1 to 3.
Who It’s Best for: Those who like the moves of Ashtanga but not the repetition of following a set sequence. Vinyasa can easily be adapted to any fitness level.
Keep in Mind: Vinyasa classes may feel more westernized than Kundalini or Iyengar. Some teachers play pop music and use the colloquial names for asanas, like Mountain pose or Chair pose, rather than the Sanskrit ones (Tadasana and Utkatasana, respectively).

Ok so I’m back on the wagon again…well so to speak, back on the fitness wagon. Not that I ever would let myself get “huge” cuz I’m such neurot, but I’ve been over indulging during the holidays, like many of us, not going, as frequently as I would like, to the gymnasio, and when I am there just being truly bored with my work outs. I also got really sick with this coughing nasally thing that has been seen to be plaguing every1 and their momma, right? But no more excuses! I’m back!!!

I proceeded and got out all my backed issues of “Oxygen” (a fitness mag for women, which I fully endorse and love) which I’ve had staring at me in the back of my closet, waiting till I had time to tear out the work outs and put them to use. So that’s exactly what I finally decided to do. i tore them all out, put them in to categories, according to muscle group, or the kind of training, and placed them in a binder, ready for that moment that I could put them to use. I went and purchased all my necessary supplements from my favorite vitamin store, bought a stability disc to challenge my core muscle and balance skills, and bought a journal to plan out my daily workouts, and keep track of what I’m consuming on a daily basis and how often I’m consuming them & I just got reminded today to set a goal, whether it’s fat loss or improved endurance, and mine is to get down to 112lbs in three months. Also I’m going to try and do more outdoor activities (snowboarding, skating, biking, hiking, bleachers, plyometrics) because when you workout outside you burn more calories then when you do inside. I’m really not that far off, so wish me luck and tons of will power!

I’m only human and I know I’ll fall, but I’ll just get right back up again, and thank the gods for my health and my weight as is, cuz god only knows how long I’m going to look like this! I want to enjoy it now, and not look back and say “Well I should’ve been more grateful then.”

Here’s some sites below that I love cuz they keep me motivated!

www.oxygenmag.com

Oxygen magazine is a fitness magazine geared specifically toward women and our needs. I love it. I take it to the gym and hop on the stair climber reading it front to back and back to front. It’s awesome!!!

Here you’ll be able to find new workouts for every body part, nutritious recipes that are low calorie and still tasty, & inspirational stories from women just like me and you.

We don’t always know why things happen. Disappointments and difficulties may never be explained. For example, you may never fully understand why management passed you up for a promotion or why a partner left you for someone else. No doubt there will be times in your life when you are left scratching your head trying to figure out, “Why?”

Letting go when there is no understanding that “Why?” is very hard. Our culture places such emphasis on finding answers. But, finding answers isn’t everything. Your life should not stop when you don’t understand events. Instead, you must learn to let go.

So, get on with your life. Regain your energy and passion. When you let go of the frustration of asking “Why?” you clear the deck for a brighter future!

I was surfing the net for some inspiration and happened upon this site just for women where you can go and get daily meditations and tips for personal development in what ever capacity you see fit for you. It’s www.meditationsforwomen.com. You can sign up for free to receive daily meditations or inspirational passages to help you through your day. Today’s Meditation is:

“Count your blessings.”

Perhaps one of the simplest ways to change your mood or mental outlook is to remind yourself of all the good things in your life. Reflecting on how far you have come, what you have already accomplished, and what you have learned, can be very encouraging.

Appreciating your dearest friends, your closest family members, your favorite possessions and of course yourself can bring a smile to your face.

If you need a lift or an attitude adjustment, try to appreciate and reflect on the good things. Count your blessings. It can be done anytime and any place.

I signed up, so I’ll be posting Meditations up frequently!! Enjoy and have a fab day!!

For all of you that have allergies from HELL. Here’s a tip for you. For years I’ve dealt with colds, and irritated sinuses, until I was turned onto the “Neti Pot”. If like a lot of people, you find that your nasal passages are blocked because of pollution, pollen, dust and other irritants, you may find this simple nasal irrigation technique to be of invaluable benefit to you.

The practice of nasal cleansing – known as Neti – has been used by practitioners of Ayurvedaand Yoga in India for thousands of years. Neti is one of the 6 purification techniques performed prior to practicing yoga as a way of preparing the body for the yoga practice.

Below I attached a video explaining the hands on technique. Trust me once you do this you’ll feel loads better!
